Department of Labor (DOL) audits are expensive. Bruce Lyon-Dugin has represented clients successfully with the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor five times in the last ten years. The last one was an IRS audit for failure to file Form 5500 for a total of six years, each year having a maximum penalty of $25,000 per year. The end result was that the IRS waived all prior penalties and accepted the 2012 Form 5500's along with 2005-2010 filings.
Remember when your CPA firms completes your retirement audit, make sure you have a electronic copy of the work paper and lead schedules. For the DOL will be asking the Plan Administrator for these and not your CPA Audit Firm. We can help with what DOL is requiring. Consider using the PPACA Check-Point Tools Guides
